The game basically makes it impossible to win by giving you pieces that you cannot make a full row with no matter what you do. This is one of the biggest reasons someone will never beat Tetris. After some time, you will technically beat your high score, but still lose the game. Once you have a long thin block coming up, drop that into the one block hole and hear that sweet sound of achieving a Tetris. This one is a bit trickier and is for a more advanced player. The T-Shape blocks can be very useful in gaining single and double combos but it does require some creative uses of blocks and a quick reaction time to get the spin right.
When your T-Tetrimino comes down, place it so that the T faces away from the gap you have created. As the Tetrimino comes to a rest, quickly spin the piece so that it slots nicely into your created gap.

How can anyone make Tetris lag and slow down like the developers of Tetris Ultimate did with their product? This sustained popularity is mostly due to its timeless visuals and game design, which has endured over 30 years and is still alive and well today. It is also fairly easy to learn, so much that even older people who may not be that tech-savvy have been hooked by its simple gameplay and fascinating mechanics.
To think that it was created by some Russian dude in a computer laboratory working for the Soviet Union in the thick of the Cold War, its existence is still quite amazing.
As far as playing it perfect, it is nearly impossible to do so even when a high level of skill is involved due to the nature of the gameplay and the increasing mathematical improbability of sustaining a game the longer you play.
