Is it normal for breast milk to be oily

A comfortable baby with yellow stools does NOT have a problem with milk fat content! In a thriving, comfortable baby, an occasional green stool can safely be ignored.

What is the remedy for lactose overload? All that may be required is to deepen attachment and encourage the baby to feed for as long as they want on each breast.

Laid-back or side-lying positioning can help a baby to manage a fast milk flow. Is it ever appropriate to limit a baby to one breast per feed? Other measures to help the baby to manage milk flow have been tried but the situation has still not improved. Hi, Saturday was my sons 3rd birthday and I baked him 2 cakes , 1 for preschool and 1 for home. Original poster's comments 1.

It might have been the fatty milk separating from the watery milk? My expressed milk separates and has the fatty stuff on top. Sounds normal. As above, the separation is normal. I always warm the milk then swirl it round gently mix it.

Never noticed it be oily though. Same here, milk separates and top layer very fat hence separation. Probably silly but just a thought, could it have been from when you've washed the bottles, maybe some butter residue in your washing up bowl from when you were baking and washed your mixing bowl perhaps?

Is bm oily. Thread starter catherlyn Start date Jan 26, Recently I find that after dear daughter finish drinking there will b a layer of yellow coating on top on my leftover ebm in the bottle.

The bottle also look oily is this normal? Is there anything wrong with my bm? Breastmilk is a bit oily. It's fats which baby needs to put on weight. BM is oily due to the fats content. When you store bm in the fridge or freezer, you will find a thick opaque layer on top fats and the watery milk below. Bcos bm is not pasteurised, it looks like this. Just need to lightly shake the bottle or container to mix it up before you feed.
